Tony Nunziato for State Assembly

Maspeth Avenue a wreck

Dear Editor:

For the past five years, my neighbors and I have been trying to repair Maspeth Avenue from 59th to 60th Street. There were floods of water in sinkholes on the street, which splashed everyone as cars approached. We contacted Assemblywoman Margaret Markey numerous times to no avail. After reaching Tony Nunziato, the road was resurfaced within a month.

We have also repeatedly asked for a traffic light in front of Martin Luther High School. So far, nothing’s been done.

In addition, the Q 39 bus used to run on Maspeth Avenue. The bus route was taken off our street to Grand Avenue. I gathered 300 signatures to restore service. No such luck. In this big city, I have never heard of a bus taken off a busy street and sent to another. Assemblywoman Markey is the only representative we have and she allowed them to do it.

Every week, we see Mrs. Markey cutting ribbons on 69th Street. How about some support for us?

Regards,

Vincent L. Quattroch
