Nunziato Gets the Job Done
Dear Editor:
On May 26, 2008, we discovered a “pot hole” in the street directly in front of our driveway. We called 311 and reported it and received a “complaint number”. After three days nothing was done and the pot hole became a crater. Again we called 311 and were given another complaint number and told it would be fixed within 8 working days. DOT finally responded and put some asphalt in the holes, within 24 hours the asphalt sunk to the bottom. Calls to Community Board #5 and our Councilman resulted in referrals to 311.
After three months of getting the runaround, we contacted Tony Nunziato and showed him pictures. In our presence, he made a phone call and told us someone should be there the next day. The next day, DEP and DOT both responded and filled the holes. They indicated to us that it was a Con Edison problem. Both the DEP and DOT said they could not put down steel plates. Con Edison dug up, cemented and put down a steel plate so that we could use our driveway until they could finish the work. Seven days later the street was paved. Tony not only called us for a follow-up but personally came and looked at the results.
